Our Campaigns

Campaigning is at the heart of what we do, both in opposition and in power. Of course, at the heart of what we do is our desire to see a Labour government in Westminster and a Labour MP in Stone, Great Wyrley & Penkridge. But we also campaign on local issues and work with a number of key organisations and individuals to make our towns and villages better.

#GE24

Next year will see the General Election of a Generation! As with Labour’s great 1945 victory, Britain finds itself in a place where change is greatly needed. We’re not emerging from a war of bombs and rubble, but from a 13-year-long assault on working people, children, the elderly, those with disabilities and people from minority communities. The people who have committed this assault have largely been from a privileged class who have little understanding of our needs. And now that all the money’s been spent, all the dodgy contracts given out and expenses rinsed dry, the same people who lied and partied through the pandemic want to turn us against each other with their ‘culture wars’ or blame migrants for the breakdown of our public services, whose collapse started long before those young people fled their countries.

The only answer to this abject failure of British politics and morality is to start anew – to build what we want to see – to be the change. And the only party for that is Labour. We did it in 1945 and we can do it again. It won’t be easy, but it will be the best thing we’ve ever done. And we’d love you to get on board! Head over to our Contact page to leave your details.

River & Sewage Pollution – Enough Is Enough!

SGWP Labour Party Says ‘No’ To Water Pollution

The extent of sewage pollution in our waterways is an issue of massive concern to local residents and river users. It is damaging to wildlife and to the interests of many river users including anglers and the Stone Canoe Club, which had to cancel a number of events on health grounds.

In response to this, Stone & District Labour Branch have been monitoring the situation over several months. We met with an environmental expert to understand the true scale and nature of the problem in Stone and surrounds. They painted an alarming picture, revealing that at the last assessment of water quality within the Trent Valley catchment of the River Trent, only one (2.4%) of the Trent Valley water bodies was rated ‘good’ and they all failed on chemical status.

Stone Branch Labour Chairman Bill Lockwood spearheads our work to tackle water pollution. His work has been published in the Staffordshire Newsletter. Read his latest statement.
